Regatta Report: Chinese New Year 2012

Celebrating the Lunar Chinese Year in style, with a brilliant sunny day on the Yarra. Finally the sun's come out for a regatta, and what a cracker of a day it turned out to be, literally! Gong Xi Fa Cai!

Almost at full strenght and crew size, and fielding a Masters 20 crew again, we came out of the blocks very strongly. Last year was a great first for the CNY regattas att eh World Trade Center, and this year the organisers put on a great day of racing again.

The Lion dance was a great display for young and old, the fire crackers may have been a wee bit too loud, and the whole day was a true dragon boat racing day in the best of Chinese traditions.

We fielded crews in premier mixed (a 20's crew and two 10's crews), masters mixed, women's 20 and open's 20 as well, taking out all 5 tops spots in great style. Our second mixed 10 crew also took out a very respectable 4th place overall. MVP award for the day will go to Kathryn, for bringing the mixed 20's crew across the finish line whilst being bumped off course by now less than 2 other boats! Even better (or worse), these boats all finished in lane 1, which was a tight lane for starters.

It was also great to see a few new commers join us for a day of racing, also helping out with the marshalling and even jumping in other crews to help them get full crews to the starting line.

Congratulations to all for a great day of racing!
