Training
Melbourne Flames regularly train at Shed 2, North Wharf Road, Docklands (Melways 2E B6). From September to April we train up to three times per week, usually on Sunday mornings at 9am and Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:15pm.
Our winter training program focuses on developing technique and encouraging new paddlers to join us (even though its cold!). We train on Sunday mornings from 9am and generally spend an hour paddling on the water before gathering for a social chat at a local coffee shop.
We provide paddles and life jackets, but you will need to:
- wear old clothes (t-shirts, bike shorts are ideal)
- wear old trainers or paddling booties on your feet
- bring a drink bottle filled with water
- bring a hat and sunscreen
- bring a change of warm and dry clothes
We train in all sorts of weather conditions, but will not go out on the water if there is any safety risk. We endeavour to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the nominated training time. This allows time to catch up with fellow paddlers, do a few warm up stretching exercises, get a life jacket and assist with getting the boats our of the shed and into the water.

Gym
Our coach Serge runs small and very effective gym sessions which target strength, speed and endurance, using no-nonsense, well proven Eastern Block training methods. The exercises are the same as used to coach the national canoeing squads of Soviet Union and Australia. The routine is tailored to your fitness level. Two sessions a week will take your fitness to a whole new level, whether you're recovering from injury or an ex-olympian!
All club members are more than welcome to come down. Please let Serge know if you will be attending. There is never a bad time to start. Cost per session is $5 and is not included in the Club membership fee.
